A BlackBerry Case for All Occasions

Share
BlackBerrys come in many different forms and each has its own purpose. The same is true for protective cases for your BlackBerry. Cases come in many different designs and styles, and each has its own use for the ever-changing needs of today's multi-tasking mobile users.

Business users may want a professional looking cases that provides easy, no-frills protection while maintaining maximum productivity. Casual users want protection and usability, but also want to add a little style that reflects their personal preferences. Let us not forget, however, that business users have a personal use for their BlackBerrys as well, and vice-versa. Today's BlackBerry is designed to appeal to both types of users because modern lifestyles combine personal and professional tasks. Thus, BlackBerry users need a protective case that provides appropriate protection for their particular occasion or situation.

For example, you may be in the office or going to a business meeting and want to maintain a professional appearance. A simple, low-profile leather case will do fine in this situation. After work, you may be going hiking or working out at the gym. A multi-layer case that provides a greater level of drop and ding protection is better suited for this situation. You may want to remove a case completely while sitting at home reading and e-book or browsing the Web on your BlackBerry to remove extra bulk and weight. Protective skins are handy in this situation because they provide increased grip and scratch protection without the extra addage of a case (I leave my DecalGirl skin on at all times and just swap out different cases over top).

High-speed lifestyles require high-speed adaptation skills. Users depend on their BlackBerrys and leaving your device without protection is not an option to ensure it is working properly when you need it. Adjust your protective case choices to your particular lifestyle so you always have the right protection for the right occasion.

Cases for BlackBerry - Just Any Case Won't Do

Share

All BlackBerry Cases Are Not the Same

A case is a case, right? Not true. There are hundreds of different BlackBerry case manufacturers out there today, but only a handful that provide worthy protection. The bottom line is, like anything else in life, you get what you pay for. So what's the difference?

What to Look For in a Case for Your BlackBerry

First, and most importantly, a quality case will be custom designed to fit your particular BlackBerry device. Many manufacturers claim that there cases will fit your BlackBerry perfectly, however, when you install these "generic" cases on your device, you'll discover otherwise. In some instances, this can cause more damage to your device than not having a case at all.

A loose-fitting case has internal gaps causing the device to shift and rub inside the protective material. When you remove the case later, you'll discover that the finish has been damaged or scratched. A case that fits too tight can interfere with the controls and functions and cause "under the case" damage as well. To use an analogy, choosing a case is like choosing a good pair of shoes. A well-designed shoe will provide long-lasting comfort and protection because it was engineered to fit right and is made of quality materials.

Another quality to look for in a premium case is the physical design as related to comfort and usability. Does the material provide comfort and grip (this will help prevent drops from happening in the first place)? The case should also provide usability. All functions and controls should be easily accessible without the fuss of removing the case. That brings up that last thing to look for when choosing a case, which is easy installation and removal. Nobody wants to spend 15 minutes trying to get a case on or off their device and being able to easily swap out different case designs to suit different occasions is important.

Do a Little Research

Choosing a quality protective case for your BlackBerry is not a complicated matter, but at least some minimal research should be applied before buying. Look for brand names. Otterbox, Incipio, Body Glove, iFrogz, DecalGirl, Griffin, and invisibleSHIELD are some examples. Watch for "bundle" deals that might include several accessories along with the case such as chargers or cables. The cases and accessories included with these package deals tend to be generic, no-name brands. Remember that Google is your friend. Do a search on different brand names and look for customer reviews. The opinions of users who have actually used the product are an invaluable asset when trying to make a good purchase decision.

Texting in the Bathroom - The Toilet Dunk

Share

Many Users are Multi-Tasking in the Other Office

I read an interesting statistic recently. As many as 59% of mobile users use their device in the bathroom, usually texting. I guess reading magazines is old school now. Although I could not find any hard stats on this, I would guess that the number of mobile users who replace their phones due to dropping them in the toilet is pretty high too as this is a very popular search on Google. I thought I would make some recommendations for victims of the "toilet dunk" - from a mobile phone aspect anyway. Of course, this fix could apply to getting your device wet in any number of ways.

If you drop your BlackBerry or other mobile device in the toilet:

1.) Get it out fast! This is the hardest part as sticking your hand in the toilet is a very hard thing to do.

2.) Power off immediately. Take off any case or skin and remove battery, memory card, and SIM card if your able.

3.) Let the device air dry. The ideal location is outside in the sun but you can also wrap the phone in a towel with aluminum foil around it and put it in the oven on a very low temperature for an hour or so. Another option is to submerge the phone completely in a bowl of uncooked rice overnight to absorb the moisture.

4.) Reinstall battery and try to turn it on. If your phone seems to work OK, then congratulations because you are very lucky. If the phone won't power on or is acting crazy after powering on, it's over. Replace your device.

My advice is to avoid multi-tasking in the bathroom as this can be a very expensive and embarrassing mishap.
